In 1956 a number of independent cheese ripening businesses took the initiative to establish Nederlandse Kaas Unie (Dutch Cheese Union). The most important aim was to develop a shared quality assurance system.

This pooling of strengths and concentration of cheese suppliers made it possible to react quickly and in an innovative manner to the wishes of wholesalers.

The present business UnieKaas, the largest independent cheese business in the Netherlands, is the result of these earlier efforts. UnieKaas is a true specialist in production, development, ripening, and worldwide distribution of domestic and foreign cheese specialties. Despite its size, UnieKaas is characterized by a great flexibility and provides a high level of service.
